Narrative and Informative writing has been a focus and concern for entire grade level. Usage of transitional words was mentioned but the problems are more aligned to “6 Plus 1.” Ideas and voice seem to be lacking in their writing. Each subject has its unique set of struggles. Organization is another aspect that has struggles. Dividing up a groups with stronger writers could remedy the situation. As could an increased level of scaffolding.
Here are some simple steps we came up with as a group. More or less this is a return to the basics.
- Write down ideas- Brainstorm.
- Organization- Graphic Organizers help lead to a outline.
- Then voice will be developed.
