“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.” – Christopher Hitchens
A NEW QUARTER
The 4th grade team focused on the pillar of collaboration for study in our classrooms during the 1st quarter. We wondered what would be a natural pillar of study to focus on for the 2nd quarter, and decided on critical response. During the 1st quarter, we observed our students being engaged and motivated in collaborative learning projects, but also saw room for improvement in providing critical feedback to one another. While our students were full of ideas and opinions, they often struggled with advocating effectively for their line of thinking. Our hope is by working to improve our classrooms through the lens of critical response, our students will learn how to use convincing arguments and evidence to support their thinking, and in the process become better collaborators.
- What would be your dream vision for be for how critical response shapes student learning in your classroom?
- What could you change in your classroom to help your students move closer to this vision?
