Second quarter is here, and our team has had an opportunity to reflect on the work we just completed for first quarter. For our team, grade level meetings have provided space for us to consistently share teaching strategies and plans, while giving one another advice and feedback.

This quarter, Kindergarten is shifting our focus of the six pillars (collaboration, authentic participation, play, choice of expression, critical response, iterative learning) from collaboration to play.
This year, we have been curious to see how free play, can shift from traditional play to a type of play that is purposed to an academic goal or achievement.
We are currently playing with the idea to design play dates between the bilingual classrooms and the monolingual classrooms throughout the first quarter. We discussed using second quarter for a time to free play so that our students can shift to academic play for third quarter when our students are asked the essential question of “How are people alike and different”.
