Shared Vision and Norms for GLM
-Hear all the great ideas from everyone. We all have things to contribute, but we don’t always have that space to do that.
-Be a fly on the wall in other people’s classrooms.
-Have the opportunity to do some vertical mapping. How do our subjects look differently at different levels? When students level up, how can we reinforce and build on what was done the year before (and combat summer learning loss)?
-Discuss what’s working and what’s not, and troubleshoot. What are effective strategies that others are using?
-Develop a tool kit using common language to describe and teach our shared practices. For example: norms of collaborative discussion-- if we’re all sharing those, they don’t need to be retaught.
-Extend this conversation beyond Thursdays. How can we use Schoology to share and discuss?
With this in mind, we decided to continue meeting as a single team with both 4th and 5th grades represented. Very excited about this group!
Here are the norms we agreed on:
Grade Level Learning Cycle
Eventually, though, we agreed that it’s most helpful to start with our own classrooms. For next week, we’ll all bring in observations and artifacts from our classes around group dynamics and discuss what we noticed and what patterns emerged. Then that will guide us moving forward.
