Salazar: Maps: explore and observe.
Rivera: "Part of playing is learning from other people." Students are given building materials to explore. In their notebooks: observations, pictures with lables, what are you wondering? Write out norms for play. Kids came up with “Discovery.” Shared clip of MythBusters (Can you sing loud enough to shatter glass?)
Morrow: Brought students to the garden to explore and established norms for being outside. Class came back and shared what they found, utilizing vocabulary (“harvest,” naming insects). Students got to gravitate toward their interests, and we took advantage of teaching moments. “Scientists love being scientist because they get to play all the time!”
What are our norms for Play? How can we establish common norms?
How do we name this practice: Play or Explore? Do they mean the same thing?
